Barclay Damon

A firm's strength and longevity ultimately depend on the quality of its lawyers and staff. Since 1855 Barclay Damon has sought to hire men and women who are committed to its core values: competency, accountability, dedication, understanding, discipline, determination, independence, commitment and unity of purpose. Another key to its long-term success is the firm's ability to deliver proactive client service and outstanding results in a cost-effective fashion. This is accomplished by partnering with clients, focusing on their needs, and helping them achieve their goals in a way that provides true added value. New employees must be able to work well in a cooperative, team environment.

Attorney Positions

We recruit attorneys with an excellent academic record, an outstanding work product, and a work ethic that includes the ability to operate well in a team environment. While the individual talents and expertise of each attorney are critical, attorneys are often assigned to client or industry teams, in which the objectives of the firm and the group require strong interpersonal and communication skills. Work life balance is key to professional and personal success, we offer our attorneys an Alternative Work arrangement, which allows for a flexible work schedule, and ten percent of our Associates have taken advantage of this arrangement.

Community participation is also strongly encouraged by the firm. Attorneys with a desire to get involved in the local community demonstrate a desire to enhance their personal growth while fulfilling a firm tradition.

Summer Associates

Barclay Damon offers a summer associate program for qualified second year law students interested in obtaining experience in the practice areas of the firm. The program commences in late May and continues for approximately 11 weeks. All of our Upstate offices participate in the program and are committed to affording qualified law students the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and experience of the technical and professional aspects of becoming a lawyer and practicing law. Summer associates work closely with our partners and associates in all of the firm's practice areas on actual client assignments. Summer associates devote a significant amount of time to researching various legal issues and drafting legal memoranda, but also have many opportunities to obtain first-hand experience in litigation and transactional work including observing depositions, trials and administrative meetings and hearings, attending closings for a variety of commercial transactions and drafting agreements.

Barclay Damon's summer associate program has a proven track record of advancing the development of young lawyers. We frequently extend offers to participants in the summer associate program and as a result has successfully integrated new lawyers into the firm who demonstrate technical abilities, creative problem solving skills and commitment to client service.
